Billy Steinberg

Billy Steinberg (born February 26, 1950 ) is an American musician and songwriter , who is best known for his compositions with Tom Kelly and Rick Nowels .

Career

Billy Steinberg began his musical career as a singer in a cover band. He started writing his own songs and formed his own band, which also got a recording deal. He himself was unsuccessful, but the cover version of his song How Do I Make You by Linda Ronstadt in 1980 became a number 10 hit in the USA. Even Pat Benatar coverte his songs and when he the musician and songwriter Tom Kelly met, the two decided to form a songwriter team.

The pair wrote numerous hits in the 1980s and early 1990s, five of which made it to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 . Like a Virgin , Madonna made her international breakthrough in 1984 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame , True Colors and Eternal Flame were successful several times by various artists. In 2011 both were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame together .

When Tom Kelly retired from songwriting in the mid-90s, Steinberg continued with producer Rick Nowels, among others , and continued to be successful there. For their participation in the album Falling into You by Celine Dion , both were awarded a Grammy Award in 1997 .
