Darling Thieves is a punk band from Huntington Beach , California . It was founded in 2004 by Justin Mauriello, the former singer and guitarist of Zebrahead , as "I hate Kate". Mauriello has always written music with strong pop-punk influences, so Darling Thieves also has many pop-punk influences.

Band history

Darling Thieves were founded in 2004 by Justin Mauriello, then under the name "I hate Kate" and with AJ Condosta as drummer. At that time Mauriello was still playing for Zebrahead. After a while he left Zebrahead to concentrate fully on Darling Thieves (I hate Kate). “Playing with other musicians is like being in a relationship and being able to have sex with other people. It's brilliant ... and in music ... it's ok. Anywho ... I was playing with the Kates, one thing lead to another and after sometime, this band became my full time love. " (Justin Mauriello)

Career

In 2005 I Hate Kate released the first EP "Act One". Then in 2007 the first album "Embrace The Curse" was released. On the album there are mostly new recordings of the songs already released on the Act One EP. Nevertheless, the album brought some success. They shared the stage with bands like My Chemical Romance, Social Distortion, Taking Back Sunday, The Used, Angels and Airwaves, and Unwritten Law. The first single on the album "Embrace The Curse" was "Always Something" and was released in 2007. On June 9, 2010 the band announced to their fans via their Myspace presence that I hate Kate had to be renamed Darling Thieves for legal reasons. The response from the fan base was mixed, but nowhere near as outraged as when Mauriellos separated from Zebrahead. The first album under the new name first appeared on June 5th at a show at the Denver Marquis Theater and was titled "Race to Red". The first single on the album is called "Free without you". AJ Condosta was also no longer there and was replaced by Ed Davis, which in turn dispelled rumors that Zebrahead's drummer Ed Udhus was supposed to follow his old friend to Darling Thieves.
