Loesser wrote the song for the Paramount film Pauline, Let It Be Kissed (Original title: The Perils of Pauline , 1947, director: George Marshall ), with Betty Hutton and John Lund in the leading roles. The song is presented by Betty Hutton, accompanied by the Joe Lilley Orchestra. The record appeared on Capitol # 409. I Wish I Didn't Love You So received an Oscar nomination for Best Song in 1948 .
The first lines of the ballad read: “I wish I didn't love you so much and my love for you would have faded years ago. I wish I didn't long for your kisses, why do your kisses torment me for so long. "
