Ian P. Griffin

Ian P. Griffin (* 1958 ) is a British astronomer and asteroid explorer.

He studied astronomy at University College London , where he received his doctorate in 1991.

From 1990 to 1995 he was director of the Armagh Planetarium in Northern Ireland . From there he moved to the Astronaut Memorial Planetarium and Observatory of Brevard Community College in Cocoa in Florida and then to the Auckland Observatory in New Zealand . Between 2004 and 2007 he was director of the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester . He currently serves on the board of the non-profit Science Oxford .

In the period from 1998 to 1999, he and colleagues identified a total of 25 asteroids .

In addition, he discovered and described the trans-Neptunian double system in 1998 WW31 in the Kuiper belt .
