Georg Borges

Georg Borges (* 1964 in Kempen ) is a German legal scholar and has been a professor at Saarland University since April 2014 . Before that he was professor at the Ruhr University Bochum from 2004 to March 2014 .

Life

In addition to studying law at the universities of Frankfurt / Main , Geneva and Bonn and studying economics at the FernUniversität Hagen , he worked as a tax clerk. He passed his first state examination in law in 1990 at the Judicial Examination Office of the Cologne Higher Regional Court , and the second state examination in 1994 at the State Judicial Examination Office in North Rhine-Westphalia .

From 1990 to 1993 he was a research assistant at the Institute for International Private Law and Comparative Law at the University of Bonn. After his assessor examination, he worked as a lawyer for the law firm Gleiss Lutz from 1994 to 1997 . Following this, he became Norbert Horn's assistant at the Institute for Banking Law at the University of Cologne .

The doctorate took place in 1996 on the subject of the double exequatur of arbitral awards. The recognition of foreign arbitral awards and exequatur decisions at the University of Konstanz , supervised by Rolf Stürner .

In 2002 he completed his habilitation with the font contracts in electronic business transactions. Contract conclusion, proof, form, location, applicable law at the University of Cologne. The work was supervised by Norbert Horn. After lecturing as a private lecturer, he received a call to the University of Kassel in the winter semester of 2003 , where he was appointed university professor.

From October 2004 to March 2014 he was a university professor at the Ruhr University Bochum and held the chair for civil law, German and international business law, in particular IT law.

From April 2012 to September 2015 Georg Borges worked as a judge in the so-called second main office at the Hamm Higher Regional Court . There he was assigned to the 27th Civil Senate, which focuses on corporate law and insolvency law .

In April 2014, Borges was offered a position at Saarland University. There he holds the chair for civil law, legal theory and legal informatics.

Teaching and Research

Borges holds u. a. Lectures on commercial law , corporate law , international private law , international commercial and corporate law and the law of electronic commerce .

His main research focus is internet law . On behalf of the Federal Office for Information Security , together with Jörg Schwenk , Carl-Friedrich Stuckenberg and Christoph Wegener, he wrote a study on identity theft and identity abuse from a legal and technical perspective. This study was officially published on June 9, 2010 by the Federal Ministry of the Interior .

On October 15, 2010, Borges presented the Federal Ministry of the Interior with another extensive report on liability risks in connection with the new identity card .
