Norbert Horn

Norbert Horn (born August 18, 1936 in Wiesbaden ) is a German legal scholar and professor emeritus at the University of Cologne .

Life

From 1956 to 1960 Norbert Horn studied law at the Universities of Frankfurt a. M. , Lausanne and Munich . He passed his first state examination in law in 1960, the second in 1965. In 1966, he received his doctorate in Frankfurt on a legal history subject for Dr. iur. From 1965 to 1973 he was a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History in Frankfurt a. M., which was headed by Helmut Coing . In 1972 he completed his habilitation in Frankfurt a. M. with a thesis on the law of international bonds. After a short period as a lawyer in Frankfurt a. M. Horn was professor for civil law, commercial and commercial law and international private law at the Faculty of Law at Bielefeld University from 1973 to 1989 . Since 1989 he has been professor of civil law and German and international trade, business and banking law as well as legal philosophy at the Faculty of Law at the University of Cologne , and has been emeritus since 2001. From 1989 to 2002 he was managing director of the institute for banking law at the university, since then director emeritus. From 1995 to 2005 he was Managing Director of the Legal Center for European and International Cooperation (RIZ) in Cologne, which he founded.

Horn has worked as a visiting professor at various universities around the world. Since 1997 he has been an honorary professor at the Chinese University of Political Science and Law in Beijing . Horn is CEO of the Arbitration Documentation and Information Center at the German Institution for Arbitration in Cologne and also works as an arbitrator. In recent years he has also written volumes of poetry. A commemorative publication was published on his 70th birthday in 2006. On his 80th birthday in 2016, his Gesammelte Schriften , a compilation of important essays by Horn from 1974 to 2015, was published.

Teaching and Research

Horn's main areas of expertise are contract law, banking and capital market law, German and international commercial and business law and arbitration, corporate law, comparative law and legal philosophy.
