biography

background

Ian Simmonds followed his trumpet-playing father's engagements around the world in his childhood. At the age of 18 he went to London and formed a collective called Sandals with three other friends. At the end of the 80s they started the club "Violets" in London- Soho , in response to the emerging acid house scene and early rave culture; various happenings followed. With the beginning of the 1990s the Sandals released on London Records . Ian Simmonds published his deeply vibrating music first under his pseudonym Juryman (1995), later under his real name Ian Simmonds.

music

In the mid-1990s, Ian Simmonds began releasing a series of 12 "albums. In addition, he produced for Leftfield and Pressure Drop, which influenced his later releases, not least where he met Luke Gordon aka Spacer. 1997 SSR released an LP Juryman vs Spacer : Mailorder Justice . His solo debut album Ian Simmonds: Last States of Nature , released on K7 in 1999 , was very well received and consolidated his reputation as an innovative producer. This was followed by the LP Juryman: The Hill (SSR Records) in 2000, Ian Simmonds in 2001 : Return to X (K7); Another Juryman LP was released in 2002 with Escape to Where .

In addition to working with various musicians, many remixes and appearances in various compilations, Ian Simmonds also composed the music for the documentary by Adam Smith's AIPS (American Infantry Preservation Society).

In 2005 the artist moved to Germany to work with local musicians on his jazz project "Wise in Time"; since then Ian Simmonds has published for "Musik Krause", a sub-publisher of "Freude am Tanzen", where five 12 " have already been released, as well as his latest LP Ian Simmonds: Burgenland Dubs .
