Ian Syster

Ian Syster (born January 20, 1976 , † December 25, 2004 in Upington ) was a South African long-distance runner .

As a South African marathon champion, he drove to the World Athletics Championships 2001 in Edmonton , where he finished 14th in the marathon .

In 2002 he set his personal best at the London Marathon with 2:07:06. At the marathon of the World Athletics Championships in Paris in 2003 , he finished seventh, in the same year he won the Beijing Marathon .

Ian Syster was killed in a car accident with his two-month-old son on Christmas morning 2004 while on the way to see his family.
