Ibrahim Biro

Ibrahim Biro ( Kurdish : Îbrahim Bîro, Arabic :إبراهيم برو, DMG Ibrāhīm Birū ; born July 7, 1965 in Amude , Hasaka Province) is a Syrian-Kurdish politician. From March 2013 to the end of December 2018 he was chairman of the Kurdish Unity Party in Syria and from 2015 to 2017 President of the Kurdish National Council in Syria.

Life

Biro graduated from the city high school and studied from 1985 at the Intermediate Institute of Railways in Aleppo . A year after graduation, he was a civil servant at Syrian Railways Corporation.

Syrian security forces arrested Biro in 1993 in the city of Amude, Hasakah province, for his political work. In 2009 he was arrested again by the Syrian security forces and sentenced to eight months in prison. In March 2011, Syrian security forces arrested Biro for participating in anti-Syrian demonstrations. He was sentenced to eleven months in prison and released in March 2012. In 1982 he was a member of the "Kurdish Alshegile" in Syria.

At the 7th Congress in mid-March 2013, he was elected Secretary of the Yekiti Party of Kurdistan in Syria for the period up to the 8th Party Congress on December 23, 2018. In 2015 he was elected President of the Kurdish National Council in Syria and was in office until December 11, 2017.

Kidnapping and exile

Biro was kidnapped on August 13, 2016 by the Asay forces of the Partiya Yekîtiya Demokrat (PYD), a Syrian branch of the PKK , in the market in the city of Qamishli and taken to an undisclosed location.
