Ibrahim Orabi

Ibrahim Orabi (born November 30, 1911 , † unknown) was an Egyptian wrestler . He won a bronze medal in the Greco-Roman style in the middleweight division at the 1948 London Olympics

Career

Ibrahim Orabi was the second Egyptian wrestler after Ibrahim Mustafa , the 1928 Olympic champion who won a medal at the Olympic Games. Ibrahim Orabi competed in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. He wrestled there in the Greco-Roman style and finished in the middleweight division with victories over Adnan Yurdaer from Turkey, Georgios Lefakis from Greece and Kalmán Kis from Yugoslavia and a defeat against the Swedish "wrestler king" Ivar Johansson a 5th place.

Ibrahim Orabi achieved the greatest success of his career at the 1948 Olympic Games in London. He started there again in the Greco-Roman style in the light heavyweight division. In London he defeated Kenneth Richmond from Great Britain and Albin Dannacher from Switzerland and lost to Gyula Kovacs (wrestler) from Hungary and Karl-Erik Nilsson from Sweden. He won a bronze medal with these results.

At the World Wrestling Championship in Stockholm in 1950, he started in the heavyweight division. He lost in Stockholm against Natale Vecchi from Italy and against Adil Candemir from Turkey each on points and finished in 6th place.

In May 1951, the Egyptian national wrestling team traveled to Sweden for an international match. On the way there she stopped in Munich and competed there in two comparative matches against a South German selection of wrestlers and against the sports club ESV Sportfreunde Neuaubing. Ibrahim Orabi lost in these fights against the German master Albert Ferber from Schifferstadt by fall and against Ewald Tauer sen. on points.

At the Mediterranean Games in 1951 in Alexandria Ibrahim Orabi finished 2nd in the Greco-Roman style in the light heavyweight division behind Umberto Silvestri from Italy.

Ibrahim Orabi was no longer at the start at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki.
