Icarus Montgolfier Wright is an American animated short film directed by Osmond Evans from 1962.
action
August 22, 1970: The night before the first manned flight to the moon, humanity is waiting, the earth is waiting. Jedediah Prentiss, an astronaut for five years, is sleeping and will take the rocket to the moon the next morning. He doubts his normal name couldn't go down in history. The narrator lets him find a new, powerful name that will endure the ages in three visions: The story of Icarus is followed by the Montgolfier brothers' first balloon ascent and, at the end, the memory of the childhood when Prentiss owned a toy airplane, and thus an invention of the Wright Brothers . Icarus Montgolfier Wright is the name that will go down in history with Prentiss. When he goes to the rocket the next morning, journalists are waiting for him and ask him his name. After a moment's hesitation, he replies "Icarus Montgolfier Wright". The film ends with the launch of the rocket.
production
Icarus Montgolfier Wright was released in 1962. The film is based on the short story Ikaros Montgolfier Wright by Ray Bradbury, which was published in 1959 in the short story book Medicine for Melancholy . Bradbury was also involved in the script for the film. In 1962 he made the first manned moon landing on August 1970. In reality, the first man set foot on the moon shortly before, on July 21, 1969.
The film works largely with drawn still images. Only a few scenes, including the rocket launch, are actually animated.
