The 2001/02 season was the sixth season of the Ice Hockey Superleague , the highest British ice hockey division . British champions were the Sheffield Steelers , who prevailed in the playoffs. The regular season champions were the Belfast Giants .

In the regular season, each of the seven teams played a total of 48 games. The first place became the regular season champion. All seven teams qualified for the playoff intermediate round, in which each team played once against each opponent. The four best-placed teams in the intermediate round qualified for the playoff semi-finals. The playoff winner became British champions. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
