Ichalia ( Greek Οιχαλία ( f. Sg. ), Also transcribed Oihalia , Oichalia or Ihalia ) is a small town and a parish of the Greek municipality of Farkadona . Until the administrative reform in 2010 , Ichalia was an independent municipality in the Greek region of Thessaly . In 2011 the municipality had 4781 inhabitants, 2357 of which were in the municipality of the same name, the remainder in four other local communities. Ichalia is also known as Neochori.
location
Ichalia is located in the Thessalian plain southwest of Elassona , west of Larisa , northeast of the city of Karditsa and east of the city of Trikala . Ichalia is connected to the Greek highway network with the National Road 6 (Larisa – Trikala– Ioannina - Igoumenitsa ).
history
As Niochori (Νηοχώρι) the place was recognized as a rural community (kinotita ) in 1912 , renamed Neochori in 1940 and Ichalia in 1981 . In 1995 the municipality was elevated to a municipal municipality (dimos) and expanded in 1997 through the incorporation of four neighboring municipalities. Together with the neighboring community Pellinei Oichalia in 2010 the neighboring village of Farkadona incorporated, where it has since formed a district.
After the Second World War and the Greek Civil War , the population decreased and many emigrated abroad. The place was not connected to the electricity network until the 1960s.
Districts
The current district of Ichalia consists of the main town and the local communities Georgianades (336 inhabitants), Klokotos (572), Krini (733) and Petroto (783).
Infrastructure
The place has a primary school and a secondary school (grammar school). Outdoor events take place on the square Marktplatz in the city center.

In 1981 the population of the main town was 3221. It fell from 3271 (1991) and 2936 (2001) to 2357 (2011).
