Ida of Lorraine

Ida von Lorraine , also Ida von Boulogne (* around 1040 in Bouillon ; † 13 April 1113 ), was the mother of Godfrey of Bouillon , the first regent in the Kingdom of Jerusalem . She is venerated as a saint.

Life

Ida von Lorraine was the daughter of Gottfried III. the bearded man from the Wigeriche family and the second wife of Eustach II of Boulogne .

As a widow she gave away her property to various monasteries (the monastery of St-Vulmer in Boulogne , the Benedictine abbey of St. Vaast in Arras , La Capelle, for the latter she had relics of Mary fetched from Spain).

She was in correspondence with Anselm of Canterbury and Hugo of Cluny and reformed the monasteries in accordance with the reforms of Cluny .

Ida of Lorraine was buried in the monastery of St. Vaast in Arras, and in 1808 her relics were brought to Bayeux .

In the Catholic Church she is venerated as a saint, her feast day is April 13th.
