history

Idaho was founded as a duo by Jeff Martin and John K. Berry in 1992. In December 1992 they got a recording contract from Caroline Records and in 1993 released the EP The Palms and the debut album Year After Year . For the 1996 album Three Sheets To The Wind , the multi-instrumentalist Dan Seta got on together with the bassist Terry Borden and the drummer Mark Lewis. Already in the beginning they were often compared with bands like American Music Club , Low or the Red House Painters, to which there were textual and musical similarities. Because of their often very slow music and as a result of various tours with like-minded artists, Idaho were quickly referred to as a slowcore band, and they are still considered to be pioneers today.

Over the years Idaho became the solo project of the singer-songwriter Jeff Martin, who recorded most of the last Idaho albums alone. Berry stayed in Idaho. B. connected as a producer. For the 1998 album Alas , Melissa Auf der Maur contributed vocals to some of the songs. The band's music was initially based mainly on Martin's and Berry's four-string tenor guitars, and recently the piano is increasingly being used. The sound is mostly calm to introspective, but occasional outbreaks provide dynamism. On the last published The Lone Gunman , there was a development towards more experimental structures, some of which were referred to as a mixture of Radioheads Kid A with Frédéric Chopin .
