Ido Nehuschtan ( Hebrew עידו נחושתן; * 1957 ) is an Israeli Aluf ( major general ) and member of the armed forces of Israel . On April 4, 2008, Nehushtan took over command of the Israeli Air Force from Eljezer Schkedi . His successor on the planning team is Amir Eschel .

Military career

Nehuschtan joined the Tsahal in 1975 and completed pilot training at an air force base on the Sinai Peninsula , which he completed in 1977. He first flew Skyhawks and was retrained in 1978 on the Phantom , with which the 107th Squadron of the IAF was equipped.

During his career, Nehuschtan was a fighter pilot, flight instructor, member of the aerobatic squadron and then as a major deputy commander of the 253rd squadron and as a lieutenant colonel commander of the 140th squadron at the Hazor Air Force Base . In the further course he was the weapons department at the headquarters of the Air Force and the IAF department for planning and organization.

In 2000 he was promoted to the rank of brigadier general. He became Air Reconnaissance Commander and from 2002 in the Operations Department. In 2004 he switched to the General Staff of the Air Force. On June 8, 2006 he was transferred to the planning and strategy department of the General Staff at the request of the then Ramatkal Dan Chalutz . Nehushtan remained in this post until the spring of 2008. On February 15, 2008, Chief of Staff Gabi Aschkenasi appointed him the new Commander in Chief of the Air Force.

Education and personal life

Ido Nehuschtan studied mathematics and computer science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . He also received degrees in business administration and management from Harvard University and Northwestern University in Chicago .

Nehushtan is married and has three children.
