Iduberga
Iduberga (also: Ida , Itta ; * 592; † May 8, 652 in Nivelles ) is venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church .
She was the daughter of an Aquitaine duke. Her husband was Pippin the Elder . Her daughters Gertrud and Begga are also venerated as saints. One son was Grimoald . The assertion in Vita S. Modoaldi (1107) that the bishop of Trier Modoald was Iduberga's brother is now viewed as a later forgery.
After the death of her husband in 640 Iduberga donated the Nivelles Abbey , where she has lived as a nun ever since. She brought relics and books from Rome and "from across the sea". A little later she founded a second monastery in Fosses (today: Fosses-la-Ville ), which was inhabited exclusively by the Irish. After her death, her daughter Gertrud von Nivelles became abbess in Nivelles and gave the monastery to Saint Foillan .
The feast day of Saint Iduberga is May 8th.
