Ienăchiţă Văcărescu (* 1740 , † 11. July 1797 ) was a Wallachian diplomat, poet, historian, linguist and Rumänist .

life and work

Văcărescu came from a boyar family in the Principality of Wallachia . He was highly educated and multilingual, wrote poetry, a history of the Ottoman Empire , a small Turkish-Romanian dictionary (around 1790) and in 1787 one of the first grammars of Romanian based on Italian models, which Ion Heliade-Rădulescu used for his own grammar from 1828 has been.

There is a school in Târgovişte and a street in Bucharest is named after him.
