One of the tasks of the institute is to coordinate regional studies research in Saarland, in particular in cooperation with the Saarland University and local history organizations in the region. The aim of the IfLiS is to bring together as many people as possible who are interested in regional and folklore and the history of our region.
Events and services
The institute organizes specialist conferences, congresses as well as regional and folklore excursions, guided tours and lectures, arranges specialists and maintains contacts with universities.
Since 1984 it has organized the competition “Saarland farmhouses - testimonies to our homeland”, which is intended to encourage and promote the owners' initiative to preserve and care for the old buildings. Particularly well-preserved and well-cared for buildings are awarded.
