The Ifo Schnelldienst is a journal of the Ifo Institute for Economic Research .

The magazine was first used by the Information and Research Center for Economic Observation on July 20, 1948 issued and stood beside the reports on the Bavarian economy . The first issue had eleven pages with seven articles and was aimed at the press . After the merger in 1949 with the South German Institute for Economic Research to form the Ifo Institute, the Ifo Schnelldienst was retained. The former weekly magazine was later published twice a month and since 2020 once a month and as of 2020 has more than 60 pages each, which are freely accessible on the Internet .

The medium reports current information about the economy , including its economic data from the institute's surveys. It is recommended in publications as a specialist journal or as a research tool for scientific work . For example, in a 2011 survey of the members of the Verein für Socialpolitik with the question “What do German-speaking economists read and appreciate today? ” With regard to the relevance for the work of those surveyed, it was ranked 34th out of 150 international magazines - it was particularly relevant for additional workers in Germany . The other ranking we examined was 123 in reputation , which, according to the study, correlates with the fact that the journal is more practical and not primarily oriented towards research. Furthermore, the evaluation by older people, who would have considered an economic policy orientation to be more relevant, was better than by younger ones.
