Ignacy Dygas

Ignacy Dygas (born July 29, 1881 in Warsaw , † May 17, 1947 ibid) was a Polish singer (tenor).

Dygas studied veterinary medicine, but at the same time began vocal training as a baritone at the Warsaw Conservatory with Józef Szczepkowski . In 1903 he had his first concert appearance, and in 1905 he made his debut at Teatr Wielki under the pseudonym Ignacy Gorczyński as Valentin in Gounod's Faust . As a student of Witold Aleksandrowicz , he switched to tenor and made his debut as Jontek in Stanisław Moniuszko's Halka .

From 1907 he studied with Vincenco Lombardi in Milan and performed under the name Ignacio Digas at many great opera houses in Italy - in Turin and Padua, at the Teatro Lirico (Milan), the Teatro San Carlo (Naples), the Teatro Massimo (Palermo) , the Teatro Carlo Felice (Genoa, 1909), the Teatro Costanzi (Rome, in Lohengrin and as Pollione in Norma , 1910) and the Teatro Comunale di Bologna . He also had great success in Madrid, Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro. From 1910 to 1914 he performed in Poland and from 1913 also directed the Warsaw Opera. In the 1913/14 season he also appeared in Saint Petersburg, from 1914 to 1916 he sang at the Simin Opera Theater. In season 1916/17 he performed at the Moscow Theater Bolshoi and entered the Mariinsky Theater as Hermann in St. Petersburg sealed Kowski Pique Dame on.

In 1917 he returned to the Warsaw Opera. In 1918 he founded his own theater company, with which he gave guest appearances in many cities in Poland. From 1919 to 1924 he was first tenor at the Warsaw Teatr Wielki. From 1924 he lived in the USA, where he a. a. has performed in Chicago, New York and Detroit, and has made guest appearances in Romania, Yugoslavia and the Czech Republic. His last appearance was in Warsaw in 1937 as Eleazar in Jacques Fromental Halévy's La Juive . In addition to occasional stage appearances, he then taught singing at the Warsaw Conservatory .
