Ignatius Michael III. Yarweh

Mar Ignatius Michael III Jarweh ibn Ni'matallah (born January 3, 1730 in Aleppo ; † September 4, 1800 ) was the Syrian Orthodox Bishop of Aleppo and from January 22, 1783 to September 4, 1800 Patriarch of Antioch of the Syrian Catholic Church .

The Syrian Orthodox Bishop of Aleppo made a Catholic creed in 1782 and was elected Patriarch of Antioch of the Syrians in 1784. After three bishops had joined him in the monastery of Zafaran , he received confirmation of his election from Rome. After a sedis vacancy since the death of Ignatius Pierre VI. Chaahbadine in February 1702 was Ignatius Michael III. Yarweh the first Syrian Catholic patriarch of Antioch. The Orthodox side chose its own patriarch, who immediately gained recognition from the Ottoman sultan. The Catholic patriarch fled first to Baghdad and then to Lebanon, who he settled permanently north of Beirut in the Charfe monastery .

After his excommunication , he plundered the library of the Syrian Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch in the Zafaran monastery . All Syrian manuscripts that are now in Charfe ( Lebanon ) are earlier holdings of the Zafaran monastery.
