Ignatius Schlick

Ignatius Schlick (also Ignàc Schlick ; born April 13, 1820 in Pest , † December 23, 1868 ibid) was a Hungarian industrialist .

life and work

Ignatius Schlick came from a family that was resident in St. Michael im Lungau ( Salzburger Land ). The repeatedly published claim that the family came to Hungary from Moravia or Switzerland in the first half of the 19th century is incorrect:

Ignatius Schlick's father, Ignatius Schlick sen. (Born July 6, 1787), a plumber born in Pest, received Pest citizenship on November 26, 1814.

His grandfather, Johannes Georg Schlick (born April 4, 1752), a glove maker who was born in Pest, received Pest citizenship on June 18, 1783.

His great-grandfather, Christianus Schlickh, a bricklayer from St. Michael (Salzburger Land), received Pest citizenship on June 1, 1736. He died at the age of 59 on September 13, 1763 in Pest.

After completing his apprenticeship (1837) Ignatius Schlick went on a journey and worked for six to seven years in France and Germany. Returning to Hungary, he founded a small foundry (Schlick-Érczöntö) in Buda in 1843 .

On September 13th, 1844, Ignatius Schlick received the citizenship of Pest.

In 1844 he also moved the factory from Buda to Pest in Kèt Nyúl utcza. From 1844 to 1854 it was expanded as Schlicksche Eisen-Gießerei (Schlick-Vasöntöde). From 1858 to 1862, Schlick's iron foundry was again located in Buda. In 1862 the plant was relocated to Pest again as an iron foundry and machine factory (Schlick-féle Vasöntöde és gépgyár). In 1912 the plant merged to form the Schlick-Nicholson machine, ship and wagon factory (Schlick-Nicholson Gép-, Hajó és Waggongyár Rt.).

The work history according to Albert Gieseler differs from this representation. The factory was named after him from 1850 to 1896 Ignaz Schlick, Maschinenwerkstätte (Hungarian: Schlick Ignàc gépmülheye), then Schlick Ignàc vasöntöde és gépgyár rt .; and from 1905 Schlick-Féle, vasöntöde és gépgyár Részvénytársaság.

The production program was constantly being expanded and, in addition to foundry products, also included steam engines, steam turbines, diesel engines, pumps, ships, railway and tram wagons, etc. a.

Services

Ignatius Schlick played a key role in the industrial development of Hungary. His factory was one of the first iron foundries in the country.
