Ignivomous is an Australian death metal band from Melbourne that was formed in 2006.

history

The band was formed in mid-2006 and consisted of Jael Edwards, Chris Broadway aka Chris Volcano and Rodney Keil. All members had previously worked for others and met at a festival. Edwards was initially only supposed to take on the vocals, but also played the bass, while Broadway took over the drums and vocals and Keil the electric guitar. The band name comes from Chris Broadway and was composed of the English words "Ignition" and "Vomit". After the founding, they started looking for a second guitarist, who was found in Sean Hinds, an acquaintance of Edwards. In the next three to four months they wrote the first songs and recorded a demo . Most of the recordings were made live in the studio. In 2007 the group continued to work on new songs, performing with Defiled , StarGazer and Dominaeon. 2009 appeared on Nuclear War Now! Productions the debut album Death Transmutation , which followed in 2012 on the same label Contragenesis .

style

Brian Giffin assigned the band to death metal in his Encyclopedia of Australian Heavy Metal . For Jason Campbell of voicesfromthedarkside.de , Path of Attrition sounded like the members hadn't heard music released after 1992. He assigned them to death metal. In an interview with him, Jael Edwards stated that the members were influenced by music from the late 1980s / early 1990s. In addition to Incantations Onward to Golgotha , Edwards also named Darkthrones Soulside Journey , Dismembers Like an Ever-Flowing Stream and Bolt Throwers Realm of Chaos as influences. Scott Alisoglu from Blabbermouth.net wrote in his review of Death Transmutation that it contained old-school Death Metal in the style of early Incantation , Immolation , Dead Congregation and Necrovation . The music sounds dark, morbid and aggressive and also shows influences from Doom Metal . Charles from metalreviews.com assigned Contragenesis to Death Metal and named Incantation, Immolation and Morbid Angel as references. Riffs would be used that would also have been suitable for albums such as Onward to Golgotha , Close to a World Below or Gateways to Annihilation . The music is complex and requires several listening sessions.
