Ihsan Ali Al-Shehbaz

Ihsan Ali Al-Shehbaz (* 1939 ) is an Iraqi-born American botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Al-Shehbaz ".

Live and act

Al-Shehbaz graduated from Baghdad University with a B.S. in 1962 and continued to work at this university from 1963 to 1966. He then moved to Harvard University , where he graduated with an MS in biology in 1969 and received his doctorate in 1973. From 1973 to 1977 he was assistant professor and director of the herbarium at Baghdad University. He held the same position from 1978 to 1981 at Sulaimaniya University . He then moved to the Arnold Arboretum attached to Harvard University , where he was a research assistant from 1985 to 1990.

From 1990 to 1996 he was associate curator of the Missouri Botanical Garden . He was a curator there from 1996 to 2001, and has been a senior curator since then. Since October 2001 he has headed the Department of Asian Botany at the Missouri Botanical Garden. From 1995 to 2001 he was director of the Flora of China project.

He has been a member of the International Association for Plant Taxonomy and the American Society of Plant Taxonomists since 1983 . One focus of his research work is the cruciferous plant family (Brassicaceae).

Al-Shehbaz is married and has two sons.
