The Journal of the Arnold Arboretum was a botanical journal published by the Arnold Arboretum . This arboretum is located in Jamaica Plain in the US state of Massachusetts ; it is affiliated with Harvard University , based in Cambridge, Massachusetts .
The Journal of the Arnold Arboretum was founded by the German-American botanist Alfred Rehder , who was curator of the Arnold Arboretum from 1918 to 1940 . The magazine was created with a technical focus on dendrology , so it was specialized in trees and shrubs . However, it also covered other botanical topics.
The publication started in 1919. It appeared quarterly until 1990; In 1991 another supplement came out. The journal has since been discontinued.
