Ikujirō Nonaka

Ikujirō Nonaka ( Japanese 野 中 郁 次郎 , Nonaka Ikujirō ; born May 10, 1935 ) is a Japanese economist, organizational theorist and professor emeritus at Hitotsubashi University (Japanese 一 橋 大学) in Japan and Xerox Distinguished Faculty Scholar at the IMIO of the University of California, Berkeley . He is considered an important co-founder of knowledge management .

Scientific activity

After graduating in political science, Nonaka first developed management programs for Fuji Electric in the 1960s . In the 1980s he dealt with the causes of Japan's defeat in World War II and called for a modernization of the technical and organizational capabilities of Japan. He paid particular attention to the acceleration of product development cycles.

The SECI model he developed describes the spiraling interaction and accumulation process of implicit and explicit knowledge . Together with Hirotaka Takeuchi , he developed this model further in the 1990s. In his theory of Ba , Nonaka describes how companies can develop interaction spaces that enable and support the exchange of knowledge and innovation work.
