Il'in Island ( Russian Остров Ильина Ostrow Ilina ) is an island off the Crown Prince Olav coast of the East Antarctic Enderbyland . It is the largest of the Shaw Islands in Casey Bay .
Aerial photographs were taken in 1956 during the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions and in 1957 during a Soviet Antarctic expedition . Russian scientists named the island after Nikolai Ilin, navigator on board the Mirny during the first Russian Antarctic expedition (1819-1821) under the direction of Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia translated this designation into English.
