Il moro (Eng. The Moor ) is a commedia per musica in two acts by Antonio Salieri based on a text by Giovanni De Gamerra.

The first performance took place on August 7, 1796 in the Vienna Burgtheater . After 21 performances in Vienna in less than a year, the piece was also staged in Dresden (1797), St. Petersburg (1798), Florence (1804), as well as in Livorno, Rome and Bologna (1805).

Salieri composed this rather low- action Farsetta with routine, but without any particular claim. The music, however, develops a Mozartian charm, to which the opera seria sometimes parody elements. In terms of instrumentation, Salieri shows his mastery again by mixing the orchestral colors in a very varied way and coming up with unusual ideas (e.g. the use of a solo violoncello). The overture is “exotic” with a cymbal, bass drum and triangle.
