İlhan Ilkılıç

İlhan Ilkılıç (* 1967 in Kepsut , Turkey ) is a health scientist and specialist author primarily on the subject of "Encountering and dealing with Muslim patients" in a western world. The doctor and philosopher has lived in Germany since the early 1990s.

Life

After training as a medical doctor in Istanbul (state examination in 1990), Ilkılıç studied philosophy, Islamic studies and oriental philology in Bochum and Tübingen from 1992 to 1997 . In 2001 he received his doctorate from the University of Bochum Dr. phil. Since 2005 he has been a research associate at the Institute for the History, Theory and Ethics of Medicine at the Johannes Gutenberg University and researches mainly on social and ethical questions of "Public Health Genetics", health ethics, health maturity and Islamic and intercultural bioethics.

Since 1993 he has published numerous articles in specialist books (in English, German and Turkish) and essays and other scientific publications. In 2002 he published an extensive work The Muslim Patient on medical-ethical aspects of the Muslim understanding of disease in a pluralistic society . His narrow encounter and dealings with Muslim patients , a "handout for the health professions" appeared in 2006 in the 6th edition.

In 2012, Ilkılıç was appointed to the German Ethics Council by Bundestag President Norbert Lammert at the suggestion of the Bundestag and the federal government. He has also been a member of the Central Ethics Commission at the German Medical Association since 2016 .
