Iliana Alvarado

Iliana María Alvarado (born February 18, 1960 ), real name Iliana María Alvarado-Dembowska , is a Polish ballet dancer , choreographer and dance teacher .

Life

Alvarado attended the Escuela Nacional de Arte in Havana until 1979 and then completed a two-year internship at the Ballet Nacional de Cuba under the guidance of Alicia Alonso , Laura Alonso , Alberto Mendez , Joaquin Banegas and others. During internships in Barcelona and Tarragona , she continued her training from 1982 to 1983 with Barbara Kasprowicz , Gerard Wilk , Serge Golovine and Rosella Hightower . With the group of the Liceo de Barcelona she performed her own choreographies and choreographies by Kasprowicz based on music by Johann Sebastian Bach and Enrique Granados .

As a scholarship holder of the French government, she took lessons from Golovine again in 1984 and attended dance classes from Wilk, Andrzej Glegolski and Gilbert Meyer . In 1988 she completed another internship at the Ballet Royal Wallonie Charleroi with Menia Martinez , Wojciech Rybak and Jorge Lefevre . During a stay in Hawaii in 1996 she studied hula with Ulu Zuttermeister , Korean dance with Mary Jo Freshley and Japanese and c Chinese dance with Diane Letoto . At the ImpulsTanz Vienna International Dance Festival 2001 she took part in a Butoh workshop by Ko Murobushi . From 2004 to 2005 she completed a dance pedagogical internship at the Center National de Danse in Paris.

As a dancer Alvarado worked at the National Opera Warsaw of the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw , at the Warsaw Operetta Theater and at the Silva Regnum Company . From 1988 to 1992 she was a choreographer at the Luigi Pirandello Theater in Agrigento . In 1995 she led a class at a ballet school in Bremen .

In her own projects, she worked with jazz musicians and representatives of contemporary music , with theaters, opera stages and television, and took part in artistic actions and performances, video productions and films.

In 1993 she choreographed the piece Dancing in Lughnasa ( Lughnasa - Time of Dance ) by Brian Friel under the direction of Judy Friel at the Powszechny Theater in Warsaw . In 1999 she choreographed Genezis z Ducha (based on Juliusz Słowacki ) by Marcin Jerzy Krzyżanowski at the Lodz Opera . At the Lodz Opera in 2000 she choreographed the opera Dialogues des Carmélites by Francis Poulenc , directed by Krzysztof Kelm . At the Lodz Opera in 2000 she choreographed the opera Akhenaten by Philip Glass , directed by Henryk Baranowski . At the Lower Silesian Opera in Wroclaw , she choreographed the ballet in 2004 completely Translucent ( Totally Translucent ; absolutna Przejrzystość ) about Edith Stein life with music by Marcin Krzyżanowski . In 2013 she choreographed the play Kafka Dances by Timothy Daly , directed by Lech Mackiewicz, at the Jewish Esther Rachel and Ida Kamiński Theater in Warsaw .

Alvarado also worked as a ballet teacher and dance teacher at the Teltow-Fläming district music school.
