Ilya Iossifowitsch Warschawski

Ilya Iosifovich Warschawski ( Russian Илья Иосифович Варшавский ; born December 1 . Jul / 14. December  1908 greg. In Kiev , † 4. July 1974 in Leningrad ) was a Russian writer and science fiction -author of the Soviet Union .

Life

After trying to become an actor, he attended the Naval School in Leningrad and went to sea in the merchant navy. From 1941 to 1949 he was evacuated to the Altai because of the war . After returning to Leningrad, he worked again as a development engineer in a diesel engine factory, in research institutes and design offices. On the occasion of a bet with his son he began to write and published his first story Robbi at the age of 52 . His second short story index J-81 won a prize from the magazine Technika - molodjoschi . As head of the Leningrad Seminar for Young Science Fiction Authors, he was Boris Strugazki's predecessor until 1972 . His small work - only five volumes of stories - received a lot of attention and many of his stories were translated and included in anthologies.
