Klamer Eberhard Karl Schmidt (born December 29, 1746 in Halberstadt ; † January 8, 1824 there ) was a German poet and lawyer.

Life

Schmidt spent most of his life in Halberstadt, where he worked as a domain councilor. He belonged to the Halberstadt group of poets founded by Johann Ludwig Wilhelm Gleim . His separation song was set to music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart . His grave inscription on Klopstock is also known .

He was a member of the Halberstadt Literary Society, which existed from 1785 to 1810 .

In 1788 he published poems by Caroline Louise von Klencke with Gleim ; In 1802 he again published a private print together with Gleim, which was dedicated to the memory of this poet and contained, among other things, two poems by Schmidt.

In 1820 he published Klopstock's correspondence in Halberstadt under the title Klopstock and his friends ; in the years 1826-1828 was published in Stuttgart , edited by Schmidt three-volume work life and exquisite works .

Klamer was married to Louise Magdalena Justina Abel (1754-1832), a daughter of the Halberstadt doctor, literary friend and companion of Gleim Friedrich Gottfried Abel (1714-1794) and granddaughter of the important historian and Low German poet Caspar Abel , with whom he had five children. His brother-in-law was the doctor and art collector Johann Gotthelf Leberecht Abel
