Iliaz Bej Vrioni (* 1882 in Berat ; † March 17, 1932 in Paris ) was an Albanian politician and diplomat. He was three times Prime Minister and five times Foreign Minister of Albania . Initially independent, Vrioni later became a member of the Albanian Progressive Party .

Life

Iliaz Bey Vrioni was born into a Sunni - Muslim landowning family who owned extensive land around the cities of Berat and Fier as well as in the Myzeqe region . His father Mehmet Ali Pascha Vrioni was a high dignitary in the administration of the Ottoman Empire .

Iliaz Bej Vrioni was one of the signatories of the “Albanian Declaration of Independence” on November 28, 1912. He first served as Prime Minister of Albania from November 19, 1920 to July 1, 1921, and later that year from July 11 to October 16, 1921 On March 30, 1924, he was appointed Foreign Minister for the first time, which he only remained until May 27. From December 24, 1924 to January 5, 1925 he was Prime Minister and Foreign Minister at the same time. From 1925 to 1926 Iliaz Bej was plenipotentiary minister in Paris and London . Later Iliaz Bej Vrioni was again foreign minister from February 12 to October 21, 1927. From October 26, 1927 to May 21, 1928 he was again Foreign Minister and this time also Deputy Minister of Justice. And from May 11 to September 1, 1928 and finally from September 5, 1928 to January 13, 1929, he was again in charge of the Foreign Ministry . He died in Paris in 1932 while serving in his second mandate as Minister of Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Albania in Paris and London.

One son was the translator Jusuf Vrioni .
