Pandeli Evangjeli ( alternative spelling: Pandeli Evangheli ; * 1859 in Korça , then Ottoman Empire ; † September 14, 1949 ibid) was an Albanian politician who was Prime Minister in 1921 and again between 1930 and 1935 .

Life

Pandeli Evangjeli belonged to the Albanian population group in Bucharest and in 1897 became chairman of the society Dituria (wisdom). Along with Kristo Meksi , Vasil Zografi and Veli Këlcyra, he joined the Secret Committee for the Liberation of Albania (Komiteti i fshehtë për lirinë e Shqipërisë) founded in November 1905 by Bajo Topulli in Monastir , which advocated the independence of Albania from the Ottoman Empire .

After Albania gained independence in 1914, he became Prefect of Korça and was a member of the delegation at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 . In the elections of April 5, 1921, he became a member of the National Assembly (Këshilli Kombëtar) and, after its constitution on April 21, 1921, its chairman and thus parliamentary president . On July 11, 1921, he took over the post of foreign minister for the first time in the cabinet of Prime Minister Iliaz Vrioni .

On October 19, 1921, Evangjeli succeeded Iliaz Vrioni as Prime Minister for the first time and took over the post of Foreign Minister in his cabinet, which was in office until December 16, 1921. In the first cabinet of Prime Minister Ahmet Zogu he was again Foreign Minister on December 2, 1924 and held this post until February 25, 1924. In the elections of December 27, 1923, however, he was not re-elected to the National Assembly. However, in the elections of March 2, 1925, he was elected a member of the Senate (Senati) and its first president. On August 17, 1928, he was elected a member of the Constituent Assembly (Asambleja Konstituente) , which became Parliament after the constitution of the Kingdom of Albania (Statutit të Mbretërisë) came into force on December 10, 1928.

On March 5, 1930, Pandeli Evangjeli Kostaq Kota replaced as Prime Minister and formed three cabinets until October 16, 1935. In the elections of November 17, 1932 and January 31, 1937, he was re-elected as a Member of Parliament and again served as President of Parliament between 1937 and 1939 (Kryetar i Parlamentit) . He was a member of parliament until the occupation of Albania by Italy on April 7, 1939.
