Illimitable Dolor ( Latin for limitless pain ) is a funeral doom and death doom band founded in 2014 .

history

Illimitable Dolor was founded in 2014 as a side project of the Australian death doom band The Slow Death by the multi-instrumentalist and singer Stuart Prickett. Only in the course of the band's career did a stable constellation and a grown band structure crystallize around Prickett as the head of the group. In 2017, during the first collaborative creation process of the third album, Prickett expressed the wish that Illimitable Dolor would develop into a “real band” and not just musicians who played the songs he wrote.

The band's self-titled debut was released in 2017 on the Indian metal label Transcending Obscurity Records and received positive reviews internationally. The following year the band released a number of cover songs for download via Bandcamp without a supporting label. In 2019 a split EP followed with the dark wave project Promethean Misery , which was also released without the support of a label. Only the second album Leaden Light was released again in cooperation with Transcending Obscurity Records and was widely discussed internationally, rated by reviewers as an average to very good album in the genre.

style

The music of Illimitable Dolor is assigned to the Death Doom as well as the Funeral Doom. For the Doom-Metal.com website, the game form presented by the group is described as an “emotional” and “atmospheric” variant of the genre with “a mixture of thundering riffs and dreamy synthesizers ”. Comparisons are made to Skepticism , Evoken and Shape of Despair . The guttural vocals by Stuart Prickett is presented as a sonorous hum. Meanwhile, the speed has a varying dynamic between “ultra-slow, devastating passages” and “striking sections of galloping Melodic Death Metal ”.
