Ilse Naumann

Ilse Naumann (* 1905 in Berlin ; † 1983 in Berlin-Neukölln ) was a German fashion and costume designer .

Ilse Naumann was probably trained at the Reimann School in Berlin-Schöneberg . In the 1930s and 40s Ilse Naumann took part in many film and theater productions. Among other things, she designed the film costumes for Heinz Rühmann in Nanu. You don't know Korff yet? , for Grethe Weiser in The Divine Jette and for Olga Chekhova in I refuse to testify . In 1939 she also designed the costumes for the Italian opera film Premiere of Butterfly . Characteristic for her costume designs was the sketching of the silhouettes with pencil and the later painting with watercolors as well as the use of transparent and tissue paper. In the 1930s, Ilse Naumann took part in the design competitions of the German Fashion Office and in 1937/1938 took first place for the design of an elegant, black evening dress with a white floral print.

Around 500 design drawings by Ilse Naumann have been preserved. A selection of her works was shown in 2012/2013 at the LVR -Industriemuseum Ratingen as part of the exhibition Shine and Gray: Fashion in the Third Reich .

The estate of Ilse Naumann was acquired by a Berlin art dealer and three years after her death in an exhibition in the Wertheim department store in Berlin-Steglitz sold.
