Ilse Wende-Lungershausen

Ilse Wende-Lungershausen (born July 9, 1900 in Berlin ; † August 22, 1991 in Ravensburg ) was a German illustrator . She always signed with –LUNGERS– –HAUSEN–.

Life

Ilse Wende-Lungershausen first attended a private art school in Berlin, trained at the Reimann School around 1927 and later worked as a fashion draftsman in the Gerson department store . Her main career as an illustrator extends from the 1920s to the 1960s. In 1933 she illustrated a National Socialist propaganda book for children, the author of which was her husband Bernhard Wende the Elder. But she became known for her lovingly executed depictions of children. She created over a hundred children's books, 62 covers for young people's books - a. a. for Johanna Spyri ( Heidi ) - countless paper dolls, games and around 200 postcard motifs, mainly in watercolor technique . She also designed dolls for the Schildkröt company and created a large number of fashion and advertising illustrations, among others. a. for Blendax and Hipp. Her work was continued in a very similar style by her son Klaus Bernhard Wende (artist name NIKO).
