Ilja Naischuller

Ilja Naischuller ( Russian Илья Найшуллер ; * 1983 in Moscow ) is a Russian musician , film director and screenwriter . He is a member of the Russian rock band Biting Elbows .

Life

Ilja Naischuller was born in Russia to a surgeon and a businessman, but grew up with his mother in London from the age of 7 . Seven years later the family returned to Russia.

He broke off his studies at the Tisch School of the Arts after a short time because it seemed "useless" to him. However, he got to know other filmmakers there, with whom he would later work.

In 1999 he founded his first band with some classmates, which soon broke up. In 2008 he founded the rock band Biting Elbows , whose singer and guitarist he is. In 2011 the EP Dope Fiend Massacre and the debut album Biting Elbows were released .

The single Bad Motherfucker was released in 2013 , for which Naischuller also shot the music video . The video, shot in the first person perspective of a first-person shooter, developed into a viral hit with over 20 million views and was touted by Darren Aronofsky , among others .

In the same year he was seen as an actor in a small role in Roman Karimov's crime comedy Всё и сразу .

Shortly thereafter, Naischuller began shooting his debut feature film, Hardcore . The action film, shot entirely in a subjective setting , was produced by Timur Bekmambetow , among others , and was cast in supporting roles with Sharlto Copley and Tim Roth . Naischuller acted here as a screenwriter, director, producer and also took on a role as an actor. The film premiered at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival .
