Karl Krämer has lived with his wife Maria Krämer in a country house near Flensburg for years. Maria used to be a highly talented singer who lost her voice at the height of her career due to illness and has since been unable to communicate. The two have three children who neglect contact with their parents. But for her father's 65th birthday, they are unexpectedly at the door. What follows are disturbing, poignant or even funny insights into a family that is caught up by the events of their past.
