Otwin Biernat (born December 3, 1981 in Graz , Styria) is an Austrian director , actor and filmmaker .

Life

Biernat completed an acting education and worked as an acting and phonetics lecturer as well as an actor and director in several theater productions. After appearances in Austria and Germany, including in the Hamburger Kammerspiele , Biernat moved to Berlin in 2009. There, together with other actors and directors, he founded “Theatrum Berlin”, an international theater group initiated by Sascha Weipert ( teAtrum VII ). Biernat played in 2010 at the Theaterforum Kreuzberg in Romeo and Juliet under the direction of Joachim Stargard .

Biernat wrote and produced short films. With the actress Anna-Sophie Brandstetter, he founded the film group “Peggy Sue Production” in 2010 for the production of short films and music videos, for which he works as a director, actor, editor and producer. As a contribution to the 99Fire Films Award 2011, they shot the short film Codeword Mr. Bean , which was shown at the Berlinale . In the same year, Biernat worked for "Peggy Sue Production" as a director and cameraman with the actress Eva-Maria Kurz on the film Essen is human .

Biernat worked as editor for the Al Jazeera channel from 2011 to 2014 . In 2011 he was also involved in the Deep View project, a documentary about electronic music in Hungary. In 2013 he was a co-producer of the feature film Homesick by director Jakob M. Erwa . Homesick was one of the entries at the 2015 Berlinale in the “Perspective German Cinema” category. He also founded his own experimental art platform “Without Confession”. He is a member of the music group “Egal” founded in 2014 and has guest appearances with the Graz band “Freaky Souls”. Since 2014 he has been back on stage as an actor.

In 2016, Biernat shot the feature film In the Eye of the Viewer - Point Of View , which he wrote and produced himself. In 2017 the film was screened at several festivals, including the Jagran Film Festival in India. The short film Macbetto was screened at the Italian Contemporary Film Festival in Canada and the Social World Film Festival. At the Art University of Foggia he is a lecturer for directing .
