Background and game material

The game Imagine is about using a set of transparent cards to display search terms that the other players have to guess. The game material consists of 65 cards, each with 16 terms in different categories, as well as 60 transparent cards on which various images and symbols are shown.

Game flow

At the beginning of each game round a player is chosen who has to represent a concept; the remaining players represent the guessing team that has to guess the term. The player who guesses the term correctly receives one point and the player who has the most points at the end of the game wins the game.

To prepare for the game, all the transparent cards are spread out in a circle on the table so that an area remains free as a playing area in the middle. The term cards are shuffled and placed next to the circle in a pile. The performer takes a term card and his left neighbor names a number from 1 to 8 to determine the term to guess. The performer reads the category aloud and then begins to represent it with any number of the transparent cards. He may combine the cards in any way he wants, cover parts with his fingers and also perform actions with the cards, but he may not speak or make noises that match the term. In addition, he is not allowed to display numbers or letters or provide additional information with his fingers.

At the beginning of each round, each player chooses two cards from his hand that, in his opinion, look particularly similar and match each other. The players place one of the two cards face down in the center of the table, the other face down in front of them. Then with up to four players three cards and with more than four players one card from the draw pile are placed face down on the cards in the middle of the table and the starting player shuffles all cards well. These are then laid out face up and all players reveal their cards face up in front of them.

The round continues until a player has guessed the term; there is no predetermined time limit. This player and the actor each receive a point chip. If several players have guessed the term at the same time, they each receive a point chip. Then the transparent cards are laid out as a circle again and the next player is the actor. As soon as each player has presented a term twice, the game ends. The winner is the player with the most points.

For advanced players, the term cards can also be left out and the performer thinks up a term to represent. However, he must always specify a category into which the term can be classified.
