Two-story temple tomb

Imbriogon was an ancient place in Rough Cilicia , today's name is Demircili (formerly Dösene ) in the district of Silifke in the Turkish province of Mersin . It is located on the road from Seleukia on Kalykadnos (Silifke) to Diokaisareia ( Uzuncaburç ), about 8 km north of Silifke.

Imbriogon was probably founded in the 2nd century AD as a summer residence for wealthy citizens of Seleukia. Since there are no relics from Christian times, it is assumed that the place was soon abandoned. There are mainly seven house and temple tombs preserved, all of which are dated to the second and third centuries. Some of them are two-story and up to 7.5 m high. A two-story temple tomb has Ionic columns in the 2.3 m high basement and Corinthian capitals in the 2.9 m high upper floor . Inside there are still three preserved sarcophagi . On the acropolis hill there are still some remains of the ancient city, such as a Roman bath house with a floor mosaic showing the sea god and a Greek inscription. There are also remains of columns from two Heroa, one of which is assigned to the Anglus family in a column inscription. There is also a very ruinous tomb on the acropolis hill. In the east of the village, on the highest point of a hill overlooking the village, there is another tower tomb with a pyramid-shaped roof. Josef Keil and Adolf Wilhelm suspect a statue of the grave owner on the roof pommel.
