Intangible cultural heritage in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg
The official intangible cultural heritage in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg ( Luxembourgish Immateriellt Kulturierwen zu Lëtzebuerg ) (IKI) comprises cultural traditions that have been entered in the register of the country 's intangible cultural heritage . It complements the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO at national level. In the other German-speaking countries, it corresponds to the nationwide directory of intangible cultural heritage in Germany, the directory of intangible cultural heritage in Austria and the list of living traditions in Switzerland .
Contents of the register
In addition to the Echternach jumping procession , which was also included in the worldwide list in 2010, the directory includes the following traditions, customs and events:
- The Eemaischen , a pottery market that takes place on Easter Monday at the fish market in the state capital of Luxembourg and in Nospelt , where in particular Péckvillchen , ceramic pipes made from baked clay in the shape of a bird are offered
- The octave in honor of Our Lady of Luxembourg, a pilgrimage to the Luxembourg cathedral in the period after Easter
- The Schobermesse with its Hämmelsmarsch, a folk festival in late summer in Luxembourg City
- St. Nicholas' Day, the feast day of St. Nicholas on December 6th
- The musical art of the French hunting horn
- The art of drywall construction
- The midwifery
- The house and field names
Further development
The register was first created in 2008 and has remained unchanged since then. In September 2018, the State Secretary for Culture, Guy Arendt , announced that the list would be revised and expanded under the direction of the theologian, historian and monument conservator Patrick Dondelinger . Since all previous entries of the five specified categories fall into those of social customs, rituals and celebrations , the focus of the additions should be in the areas of orally transmitted traditions and forms of expression , performing arts , knowledge and practices in dealing with nature and the universe, and specialist knowledge lie above traditional craft techniques. For example, the Klibberen , the Buergbrennen and the Aulenbäckerei , i.e. the production of the clay figurines offered at the Eemaischen, were proposed.
