Guy Arendt (born April 13, 1954 in Luxembourg City ) is a Luxembourg lawyer and politician from the Democratic Party (DP). He is a member of the Chamber of Deputies , and from December 2015 he served as State Secretary for Culture in the country's government for three years .

Life

Arendt was born on April 13, 1954 in Luxembourg City. He attended the Athénée de Luxembourg and then took up a law degree at the University of Nancy II , which he completed in 1979 with a maîtrise in private law. He then returned to Luxembourg, where he worked as a lawyer . 2006/07 was Arendt Chairman of the Bar Association of the country.

politics

Arendt has been a member of the DP since 1980. In the local elections in 1992 he was first elected to the Walferdingen municipal council. From 2000 to 2002 he acted as an alderman and then as mayor until December 2015. His successor in this office was Joëlle Elvinger .

In the 2013 parliamentary elections , Arendt made it into the Chamber of Deputies in the Mitte electoral district, benefiting as a successor from the fact that, with Xavier Bettel and Corinne Cahen, two who were placed before him, moved into the government and had to forego their mandate due to the applicable incompatibility rules. After Maggy Nagel resigned , Arendt himself became a member of the government as State Secretary for Culture in December 2015, and Claude Lamberty took over his seat in the Chamber .

In the next election in 2018 , Arendt was directly elected to the chamber. He was only able to take his seat after the formation of the new government , to which he no longer belonged. In parliament, Arendt is a member of several committees , and he chairs those for medium-sized businesses and tourism as well as for digitization, media and communication.
