Maria Immolata Wetter CJ (born December 13, 1913 in Landau in the Palatinate , † November 8, 2005 in Augsburg ) was Superior General of the Maria Ward Sisters and leading Maria Ward researcher.

Life

Born Elisabeth Wetter, she entered the women's order of the Maria Ward Sisters (since 2004 Congregatio Jesu) on August 26, 1933, where she took the religious name Maria Immolata. Wetter made his profession on August 26, 1935. In the same year she began studying for a higher teaching degree in Munich and took her state examination in German, history and French in 1938 and then worked as a teacher.

In 1983 she followed the call to Rome to prepare for the beatification of Maria Ward. Through her familiarization with the subject, she became a leading Maria Ward researcher. She published numerous writings on the subject. After Wetter returned to Augsburg in 2000, Maria Ward was appointed Venerable Servant of God in 2009 , a preliminary stage to beatification.

Sister Immolata was Superior General of the Institute of the Maria Ward Sisters from 1976 to 1984.

Her brother is Cardinal Friedrich Wetter , b. 1928; from 1982 to 2007 Archbishop of Munich and Freising.
