The Impey River is a river in the west of the Australian state of Western Australia .
geography
It rises on the southern slopes of Mount Murchison and flows west to its confluence with the Murchison River .
history
The first European to discover the river was surveyor Robert Austin on his expedition in 1857. The following year the river was named by the discoverer Francis T. Gregory after the well-known geologist Sir Roderick Impay Murchison .
