Impfondo is a city in the northeast of the Republic of the Congo . The capital of the Impfondo district and the Likouala department is located about 700 kilometers northeast of the state capital Brazzaville on the banks of the Ubangi River , right on the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo . At the 2012 census , Impfondo had about 41,000 residents.

Imfondo International Airport (IATA: ION , ICAO: FCOI ) is located about one kilometer south of the city . There are also fixed shipping lines from Impfondo to Brazzaville downstream and Bangui (capital of the Central African Republic ) upstream.

The Diocese of Impfondo , whose territory includes the entire Likouala department, has its headquarters in Impfondo.
