Imre Kőszegi

Imre Kőszegi (born December 6, 1944 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian modern jazz drummer .

Life

Kőszegi received piano lessons until he was fourteen; then he switched to drums. Since 1963 he was a member of a band around Aladár Pege , which won the Hungarian radio jazz competition. In 1972 and 1974 he played at the Jazz East-West Festival in Nuremberg . In 1975 he was on tour with his group "Rhythm and Brass Co." in the Federal Republic of Germany. From 1980 he traveled through Europe with his international quartet; he owned Zbigniew Namysłowski , pianist László Gárdonyi and bassist Jack Gregg on. He also worked with Gábor Szabó , Attila Zoller , Hans Koller , Fritz Pauer , Carmell Jones , Leo Wright and Jiří Stivín . In 1984 he recorded a record with Lajos Dudas . He also played with Tony Scott , Pony Poindexter , Teddy Wilson , Charlie Mariano , Ted Curson , Milcho Leviev , Frank Zappa , Allan Praskin , Kai Winding , Jo Mikovich and Hannes Beckmann .

Kőszegi is considered the leading Hungarian jazz drummer. He teaches at the Budapest Music Academy and has authored several textbooks. He continued to serve as President of the Hungarian Jazz Federation and was awarded several prizes.
