The 68 km² large lake is located at an altitude of 311 m in the Bering Land Bridge National Preserve north of the Bendeleben Mountains , about 850 km northwest of Anchorage and about 140 km northeast of Nome . The Imuruk Lake volcanic field
Southwest of the lake is the Imuruk Lake volcanic field or Imuruk Lava Plateau , which contains 75 small cinder cones and shield volcanoes , as well as large-scale lava flows. There are also pseudocraters . The shield volcano Twin Calderas forms the highest point at 610 m .
