The Imuruk Lake is a lake in the northeast of the Seward Peninsula in Alaska .

The sea

The 68 km² large lake is located at an altitude of 311  m in the Bering Land Bridge National Preserve north of the Bendeleben Mountains , about 850 km northwest of Anchorage and about 140 km northeast of Nome . The Kugruk River drains the lake on its southeastern bank to the northern Kotzebue Sound .

The Imuruk Lake volcanic field

Southwest of the lake is the Imuruk Lake volcanic field or Imuruk Lava Plateau , which contains 75 small cinder cones and shield volcanoes , as well as large-scale lava flows. There are also pseudocraters . The shield volcano Twin Calderas forms the highest point at 610  m . There are four stratigraphic units, different layers of volcanic products, the most recent of which is the "Lost Jim Lava" lava flow.

The last eruption is believed to have occurred at the Lost Jim volcanic cone in the 4th century.
